What Is Reiki?

Understanding the Energy

Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is a Japanese energy healing technique that supports your body's natural ability to heal itself. The word comes from the Japanese "rei," meaning universal, and "ki," meaning life energy. Think of it as a gentle, hands-on (or hands-near) practice that helps clear out stress, calm your nervous system, and restore a sense of balance — physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

During a session, you rest fully clothed on a comfortable table while I channel healing energy to areas where your body needs it most. People often describe feeling warmth, tingling, deep relaxation, or simply a profound sense of peace. Some people drift off to sleep. All of that is completely normal and welcome.

Usui Holy Fire Reiki is a refined evolution of traditional Reiki that incorporates Holy Fire energy — known for its qualities of purification, healing, and deep spiritual connection. It's powerful, yet incredibly gentle.

No belief system required. Reiki isn't a religion and it doesn't ask anything of you except that you show up and let yourself rest. It works beautifully alongside conventional medical care — it's not a replacement for it, just a really lovely complement to it.

The Founder

A Little About Dr. Mikao Usui

Dr. Mikao Usui

Founder of Reiki · 1865–1926

Reiki as we know it today traces back to one man: Dr. Mikao Usui, born in 1865 in Japan — a deeply curious and devoted spiritual seeker who traveled to Europe and China in pursuit of knowledge and understanding.

He shared five spiritual principles, known in Japanese as the Reiki Gokai, as the foundation of his teachings — not just affirmations, but a living philosophy for aligning your thoughts, emotions, and everyday life with healing.

The Five Principles (Gokai)

  • Just for today, I will not worry.
  • Just for today, I will not be angry.
  • Just for today, I will be grateful.
  • Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
  • Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.

"I love that each one starts with 'just for today.' It's not asking you to be perfect forever — just present, right now. That's very much the spirit of Reiki."

You come in, get comfortable (fully clothed — wear your coziest outfit), and we have a brief chat about what you'd like from the session.

02

Receive & Rest

Rest on the table while healing energy flows to where your body needs it most. Warmth, peace, deep relaxation — all completely normal and welcome.
